Our plump Methow hard red wheat berries can be cooked as a whole grain, cereal or pilaf, sprouted for salads, juiced, or milled into whole wheat bread flour by the home miller.
Our organic Methow Hard Red Wheat is a delicious spring-sown wheat with a high protein content (12-14%) and a delightfully tangy flavor. It is excellent cooked as a whole grain (cooks in 40-50 minutes) for salads, hot cereal or pilaf; sprouted for salads or juiced; or milled for hearty delicious whole grain flour.
On stovetop, add 1 cup of wheat berries to 3 cups of water with a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and simmer, stirring occasionally for 40-60 minutes or until desired tenderness is reached. Drain excess water.
Wheat berries can also be cooked in a rice cooker on the brown rice setting.
One cup makes 3-4 servings.
